About Me and My Blog

grad1_edited.jpg

As a proud 'yellow belly', hailing from the great cathedral city of Lincoln, undoubtedly a lot of my posts will deign to show off my fair city. However, my main interests also include social, gender and cultural history which in themselves cover a wide variety of topics and areas. During my undergrad (and subsequently, my Masters) at the University of Lincoln I realised that there was no specific period of time I was interested in, whether Roman, early-modern or twentieth-century, it was the people that fascinated me. So, while my undergraduate dissertation focused on medieval concubinage, my Master’s thesis considered the changing expectations of love and marriage in early-twentieth-century Britain. However, I also wrote about castles, paintings, films and so much more. It’s this range and variety that I hope to bring to my blog.

My first experience of blogging was also a result of my time at uni. In 2017 the School of History & Heritage – University of Lincoln began their own blog, for which I was to become not only a contributor but an editor too. I found I loved collaborating with both staff and students as well as getting to write the history that interested me and wasn’t completely guided by set assessment questions and deadlines.

It’s been a few months since I graduated from uni and whilst trying to navigate the world of employment, I found I missed researching, I missed writing, I missed history. So, here we are. A place for me to hone my craft and self-indulge by writing the history I'd want to read about.
